The Science of Well-Being: Therapeutic Tools to Improve Depression

July 23, 2022

All-Day Virtual Training with 7-Day Access to Download the Recordings

This course combines social, affective, and neuroscience with psychology and body therapeutics designed to uplift depression, alleviate grief, and address loss in today’s challenging, yet transformative world.

_____________________________________________________________________________

Things are challenging worldwide. A pandemic that caused us to equate social distancing with survival, and one that changed the nature of our work, personal lives, and communities. Assaults on body agency and bodily autonomy. A growing lack of equality. Global hunger. Climate change. War. Political polarization and a rise in autocracy.

Yet amidst all these factors, we find ourselves with unprecedented opportunities for change. How do we rise to the occasion, especially when we and those around us are contending with grief, loss, and depression? In this all-day workshop, we’ll convene in community to address these questions.

We’ll review new scientific findings that highlight the body’s role in emotional and social change. We’ll address the idea that depression isn’t merely the brain disorder or biochemical issue but a disease of disembodiment. We’ll  investigate an emerging field I think of as body therapeutics, a multisensory menu of dynamic practices that train our bodies and change our minds and brains.

In this all-day experience, we’ll explore:

  • the neuroscience of depression, including emotional + social research
  • adult neurogenesis, the formation of new neurons, and how we can prime it
  • the five body senses and how to strengthen them
  • body systems that affect mood, e.g. fascia, the microbiome, and immune system
  • the social factors that influence depression, and what we can do to change them
  • how do we make yoga classes and therapy sessions more therapeutic in a body-focused way?
  • fascia self-bodywork sequences, novel movement practices, and restorative practices geared to depression

We’ll experience a full range of practical tools to uplift depression, alleviate grief, and manage loss in the intense, yet transformative world we live in.

You’ll receive:

  • Access to download the workshop recordings for a period of 7 (seven) days so you can keep and review them forever
  • A copy of the workshop PowerPoint
  • A CE certificate for yoga teachers through Yoga Alliance

Materials will be sent out by end of day on Monday, July 25th. The recording will be available until Monday, August 1, 2022.
