Refilling the Well: the Art + Magic of Dynamic Rest and Renewal

All-Day Virtual Gathering with 7-Day Access to Download the Recordings

This course combines social, affective, and neuroscience with psychology and embodied practices culled from the traditions of yoga and mindfulness to the study of how we create lasting change through the lens of today’s rapidly changing and challenging world.

Please note: Although we’d love to have you with us live, we understand all the things (child care, work, time zones, etc.) that might make that difficult. We also offer you the option to register and receive the materials afterward. When sending us your registration materials, please specify whether you’ll be attending live or not, so we can plan accordingly. Thank you.

Over the last decade, science has shed new light on the factors that lead to well-being, but some of the most important insights haven’t yet reached mainstream understanding. Until recently, neuroplasticity was considered a matter of learning through practice.

This course builds on our two-hour Masterclass from November, 2021. We’ll consider groundbreaking research that supports additional forms of neuroplasticity, and how to nourish each. We’ll explore neurological, biological, emotional, and social plasticity, and how to recruit them to work in unison.

In particular, we’ll examine neuroplasticity through the lens of our current biological, psychological, and social stressors, including the Covid-19 pandemic and what it has meant for professionals in contemplative fields and for the contemplative community as a whole.

In this daylong gathering, we’ll take time to consider intentions for our practice on personal, emotional, professional, and social levels. Each person will be asked to bring intentions that can either be nourished privately or shared in a small-group context. We’ll discuss the specifics of utilizing therapeutic practices to support our intentions for our own growth. (And, if applicable, to support others in theirs.)

We’ll also use this time to create a practicum for dynamic rest techniques. Those who wish to will have the chance to guide others into these practices in the safety of community.

We’ll explore:

  • The evolving science of neuroplasticity (how the body, brain, and nervous system change in response to experience)
  • The distinct phases of neuroplasticity and how to tailor practice to each
  • How to synchronize our nervous system function with neuroplasticity
  • Detailed instruction on how to instruct, prop, and support dynamic rest practices, first for ourselves + then others

We’ll discuss how to tailor dynamic rest practices to several key emotional and social issues, including:

  • Creating emotional containers for growth and resilience in 2022
  • Supporting creativity in uncertain times
  • Establishing and implementing healthy boundaries
  • Methods for diffusing + resolving interpersonal conflict
  • Managing nervous system overdrive
  • Addressing emotional contagion + empathic overload
  • Navigating social comparison

We’ll experience:

  • Detailed instruction, including language and instruction sequencing, for a series of connective tissue release postures
  • Instruction and languaging for several dynamic rest postures
  • Instruction and languaging for several restorative yoga postures
  • Instruction and languaging for several interoception practices

Throughout our time together, I’ll integrate cutting-edge research from neuroscience, psychology, sociology, and other fields of study with detailed instruction for practices, life-altering prescriptions for personal health, and direct application to the urgent problem of our own, and others’, human suffering.

You’ll receive

  • an e-book manual for the workshop
  • a copy of the workshop PowerPoint
  • a CE certificate for yoga teachers through Yoga Alliance
  • a link to download all the materials for a period of seven days (so you can keep and review them forever)

Materials will be sent out by end of day on Monday, January 24th.
